Are you one of those who have Scandinavian locomotives installed on your Märklin Central Station 2, and that misses Norwegian, Swedish, and Danish trains in the selection of train icons? And therefor have to choose either the blank logo or standard icon with the three question marks on it? It’s understandable that Märklin only wants to have their own train models represented in the locomotives icon selection. But they still have a limited number of their locomotives placed on the list, the same applies to cranes, wagons, and other digital equipment.

To me it was just a great irritation – why have the opportunity to have pictures of the locomotives on the controller, when one does not get to add the trains one have and use. At the same time, I had a wish to quickly distinguish different trains of the same type, for example I have four NSB EL18. Moreover, some of the locomotives have two decoder addresses, and it would be great to add a symbols or train numbers on the icons that says something about the decoder / device you want to select.

Therefore I searched for ages on the internet for a way to add pictures onto CS2. And finally, on a forum, I found the solution. So now I have added pictures of all my locomotives into the list of the trains and devices installed. So now I don’t have to read through trains names to find the unit I’m looking for to control. Here you can see how to proceed in order to upload your own locomotive icons (or symbols if you prefer) into your Märklin Central Station 2. Read NB at the bottom first!

CargoNet Class 66 from ESU is downright impressive!

ESU’S SOLID MODEL OF THE NORWEGIAN DIESEL LOCOMOTIVE CD66 FROM THE STATE COMPANY CARGONET

Photo: 0rvik

Finally came the email from Togbutikken, that the ESU’s new diesel locomotive from CargoNet, known as CD 66 in Norway, had arrived from supplier! It has been a long wait from ordering, but it was worth every day. For this is the cream of what modern model railroad, for this price, has to offer. This is a masterpiece from beginning to end, and included in the ESU Engineering Edition series. It seems that there has not been spared of any thing, neither the strength, detail, or the technical solutions!

The locomotive comes in a nice box, with pre-assembled details, latest LokSound v4.0 M4 decoder assembled. Bags of additional parts and additional tools. Simply take it out of the holder and feel the weight makes a man be filled with admiration. The details are many and beautiful. I mounted a preliminary model railway for test driving, and the connection to the Central Station was completed in no time. I will tingle throughout your body before you are finished with the test round, this will impress more than model railroading enthusiasts.

The digital decoder provides for a total of 22 functions that can be controlled by the driver, (unfortunately only 16 of those available for those with controllers from Märklin – but the main ones is on the first places). Not only are there fitted a train driver in the cab, but there is mounted lighting in both cabins and not enough with that – the dashboard has also got its own lighting! There are many audio features as well, and they come out of TWO powerful loudspeakers, mounted at each end of the train. This freight train shall be heard!

But it is when one starts to run that makes the built-in extra features that differentiate it from “the rest of the gang.” Do not just make it slow sounds, which is normal for model trains today, but it makes whining noises in curves and over turnouts too! Is high speed when you brakes, so it also bright sparks from underneath the train!! They topped it off with a smoke generator, connected to a speed sensor. Smoke case (it is recommended ESU Dampf-Rauch distillates) not included, and purchased in addition.

The cargo freight train is exciting enough in itself, just look! A harsh Diesel, with a cool look. But all the features ESU Electronic Solutions has managed to put into this engine, at this price, is just stunning! This will be one of the main attractions of the future model railroad! One can understand that this locomotive was quickly sold out in Norway, and the feedback from the manufacturer is that there will not be produced additionals. So it is important to be observant if you want to acquire one.

NEW UPDATE FOR THE MÄRKLIN CENTRAL STATION 2 AND TWO NEW PHONE APPS

Foto: 0rvik

After a long hobby break it was time to bring out the model trains again. The first thing I did was to check if there were some new updates of the software to the Central Station 2 for Märklin. It turned out that there was big news! A brand new version had come – Software-Version 3.0.1. This ensures that one can use all the exciting features offered in Märklin’s new launch MFX +. This will be implemented in most new train models by Märklin in the future.

Due to technical solutions the version 3.0.1 is only available to those who have the ability to plug in a network cable directly to Central Station. For those who only have the ability to update via USB-stick only get access to version 2.0.1 of the firmware. Are you one of those who want to refresh the central station program it is very easy and you will find downloadable files, procedures, and more on Märklin’s Online Software update page. I think this page is only in German, but the update is multilingual.

Moreover, I have annoyed me that Märklin remote control solution for mobile has only been available to those with Apple products like the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. This they have finally done something about, and has launched two mobile apps, Märklin Main Station, and Märklin Mobile Station. (There are also some unauthorized free app with similar features). This ensures that one can control the locomotives, and other features of the Central Station, wirelessly via a shared wireless network / WiFi. The perfect remote control for your model railroad!

I downloaded and installed the Main Station, and was surprised how easy it was to install / connect, not to mention how direct the response was. Incredibly fun to be able to control all lok functions , switch tracks, lights, and more via the mobile. One also has the ability to control four trains simultaneously. Mobile Station seems to be something different, I shall be downloading that as well to see what layout and features it has. You can see and read more about MFX +, the Central Station update and the new mobile applications, below.

IF YOU BUY A CENTRAL STATION 2, OF THIS YEAR, THE UPDATE IS IMPLEMENTED

Lufthansa will be closed down on the model railway, and sold to the highest bidder. I have to get rid of everything I have of Lufthansa objects in 1:87. This is because they are not relevant to include on the next model railway installation. I do have enough with the two major Norwegian airline companies and Norwegian airport buses and airport trains. So everything that is pictured on the three images above are for sale (except the truck). They are now uploaded on Ebay.de, but may be sold outside at a good price.

The model of the Airbus 320, is in H0 scale and will fit perfectly into a facility with air traffic – possibly flying over the installation. The model is handmade to order and are only available in one copy. One foot in timber is provided. The winglets, shark fin tip of the wing, is damaged but the plane is otherwise in top condition! Buses are miniature versions of buses in real life from Upper Bavaria area. The airport express train is an electric locomotive with three passenger carriages that trafficked Frankfurt – Stuttgart.

REMOTE CONTROLLED, MOTORIZED WITH LIGHTS

I’m selling my Heljan container terminal. It is digital and is controlled via a control desk. It may also made possible to control from Central Station. The Container crane is motorized and can run back and forth, while there are more opportunities to move and turn the crane. One can hoist up and down containers (not in function, possible rope stuck). The containers fastened and loosened by turning off and on a magnetic feature on the crane. Two containers comes with the crane, but you can also buy extra magnets.

Lighting and spotlights, and the magnet function works great! The crane comes with ground / surface and one rail length. The ground is cut up to make room for two rails, but the parts to fill the gap are included. Everything comes in original packaging with the user manual. Sold as pictured. It is now offered for sale at Ebay.de, with the auction to end on 5 October. The crane can be obtained in Trondheim, Norway. A sale outside of Ebay can be done if I get a good offer, before any bidding take place.

The crane has not been in production since 2007. It is no longer in sale, sold out in all stores both at home and abroad, and is rare to find on the used market. So grab your chance! Here you can see a price example from the used market. This terminal will look good in any modern model railroad, and is meant to fit into both OO and H0-scale installations. The portal crane is actually the same type of container cranes CargoNet use at the container terminal on Alnabru in Oslo.

THE CONTAINER CRANE IS NOW SOLD!

Here’s two of my newset model trains in my locomotive collection. I bought them a long time ago, but I’ve been moving and traveling around the last 14 months, so they had been stored at the dealers shop. They became forgotten, untill I got myself installed at my new place, and I finally got them delivered. Two great Norwegian loco from model train manufacturer Hobbytrade. Several hobby stores have had a promotion offer campaign on selected models from this manufacturer, including GLM, Togbutikken, and Electrade. So take advantage of this offer while it lasts.

The model trains are digital with light and sound decoder. Great done, with fine details, like their original models. The trains can be found along the Norwegian railway, the Cargolink often in front of a car transport train, and Peterson* (Swedish) freight and woodchips transport in Østfold. Cargo Link MaK The 2700 is the same locomotive named Di.6 NSB. Peterson TMZ was originally a DBS-loco (Danish State Railways), but after a few years of operation sold to several Scandinavian rail companies. Anyway, two gorgeous models for a norwegian model railway!!

New websites about model railways, model cars and building kits

1 WEBSITE BECOMES 6

Illustration: 0rvik

It was time for an update of the old website, and I wanted to separate between the two different scales, H0 and N, which I am building. Also, I have my great fascination for cars resulted in an extensive collection vehicles for model railroads, and thereof I wanted to create a website for all the cars, buses, and trailers in 1:87 and 1:160. I have further great interest in buildings and architecture, and since the collection of kits also increased, it was natural to create a website for those also.

Has also improved the website for the English- and German-speaking, so they can now browse the page in their own language. But it will be like before where English is written manually, and German is stripped translation from Google translate, as I do not speak the German language to well. The posts and images is slightly larger, and perhaps provide a better experience, and the website is customized for use on tablets. Will try to update them all regularly, but essentially it will be page about model railway in 1:87.

I will also create a separate page with an overview of the various Norwegian stores have different items in trains, cars and kits in the two scales. It’s also open for those wanting to advertise on the side. I will hereafter mention stores that either provide discounts, free shipping or other positive sercive, as it costs time and money to operate and update such hobby pages. Feedback from various retailers shows that they get increased traffic from my site, and that my linkage has positive effects for their stores.

I am no professional model railway enthusiast but I have a great interest in the hobby. I dreamed for years during childhood about model trains and got my first opportunity to begin with model train as I approached my 30s. In other words, just been doing it for a few years. Hope you like the new sites. Feel free to give me tips and feedback, and please write comments on the various items. Are you a model railroader and have your own blog or website, please contact me so we may be able to link to each other.

The old site: Modelljernbane.internettside.com (no longer updated)               Link to the new pages in the lower right corner!
